Transform your closet into a practical and stylish workspace!

Short on space to set up a home office? No problem! Even if you don’t have a dedicated room, it is entirely possible to create a functional and comfortable workspace right inside your closet. Here is how to proceed to transform this small, unused area into an office perfectly suited to your needs.

1. Prepare the space

Empty and clean: Start by completely emptying the closet. Remove existing clothes, accessories, and shelves to clear out an empty space, ready to be repurposed.

Paint and decor: Opt for a light color that will visually enlarge the space, or choose decorative wallpaper to add a personal and inspiring touch. This small change can make all the difference!

Caroline's color choices: Casement, Picket Fence, and Lichen.

2. Choose suitable furniture

Custom or compact desk: For a perfect fit, consider installing a shelf or custom desk that adapts to the width of the closet. If that isn't possible, a compact desk that slides into the available space will work perfectly.

Ergonomic and practical chair: Select an ergonomic chair that can easily tuck under the desk or, to save even more space, opt for a folding chair.

3. Organize and store effectively

Wall shelves: Install shelves above the desk to store your books, office supplies, or important files. These shelves will maximize vertical space and declutter the work surface.

Wall organizers: Use wall organizers to keep your work tools within reach without cluttering the desk.

Drawers under the desk: If possible, add drawers under the desk to store daily essentials while keeping the work surface clear.

Our idea: collapsible crates for creative organization.

4. Pay attention to lighting

Adjustable desk lamp: Given that a closet often has little to no natural light, an adjustable desk lamp is essential to avoid eye strain.

Our favorite, the Ellie table lamp.

LED lights: For additional lighting, consider installing LED strips or recessed spotlights under the shelves. These lights will provide even, pleasant illumination for working.

5. Personalize and decorate

Inspiration board: Attach a cork or magnetic board to the wall to hang notes, photos, or inspiring ideas. It’s a great way to personalize your space.

Sliding door or curtain: If you prefer to hide your desk when not in use, install a sliding door or a curtain. This allows you to easily close off the space, creating an orderly atmosphere.

6. Ensure comfort and ergonomics

Ventilation: Ensure the space is well-ventilated to avoid feeling cramped. If necessary, consider adding a small fan or opening the door regularly to air out the space.

With these tips, you can transform a simple closet into an efficient, stylish, and comfortable workspace. Whether you live in a small apartment or a house, this layout solution gives you a quiet, private corner where you can fully focus on your tasks.
